Another floral fragrance! Expanding my floral collection has been a goal of mine this year. As a resident vanilla, amber-oriental girlie, it is time I expand my nasal palette. What better way to broaden my perfume collection than to be gifted perfumes I wouldn’t typically gravitate towards?
First Impressions
On first impressions, I will say that this floral fragrance is not very floral. It is branded as not your typical floral perfume, and it delivers in that sense. For someone looking for a strong floral scent, this fragrance was underwhelming. Whilst still projecting feminity, it doesn’t leave a lasting impression.
For an Eau de Parfum, I was disappointed with its longevity and projection. I have always maintained that I am a fume head who loves for my perfumes to cause a commotion. A fragrance with a strong silage and projection, traits that ‘Perfect’ by Marc Jacobs doesn’t possess. It behaved like an Eau de Toilette for me, lasting only a couple of hours after initial application. Its lack of projection may stem from its scent profile.
With base notes of cashmere, the initial scent of floral accents is mellowed by an indistinct smell I can only associate with fresh laundry. Despite its strength and longevity, the scent profile is pleasing to the nose. It is not an overpowering floral fragrance, yet it still possesses elements of a scent profile expected from the floral family.
A Floral Scent Profile
On initial application, the floral presence is there with the opening of top notes like daffodils. This sets the fragrance off to be a bouquet arrangement but unlike other strong floral fragrances in the market, there isn’t a strong floral presence throughout the fragrance’s enveloping. Looking into the scent profile of ‘Perfect’ made me compare it to one of my favourites, ‘La Vie est Belle’ by Lancome. A rich, gourmand, vanilla-based fragrance composed of a bouquet of florals throughout.
The lack of florals in the composition of ‘Perfect’ explains its lackluster floral presence. However, the Cashmeran foundation makes the fragrance perfect for daytime and summer wear. The base notes make the fragrance blend well with fabrics, making your clothes smell like a fresh basket of laundry. This allows for a seamless perfume application on clothes being able to blend with your everyday cotton fabrics.
A Scent Worth Buying?
It may not be the perfect floral perfume, but it can be a nice introductory fragrance for anyone to explore the floral fragrance family. Its light, airy nature makes it a suitable fragrance for daytime wear. A product perfect for the spring and summer months.
If you’re looking for an airy and light fragrance whose scent profile slightly resembles the floral family, then this perfume may be one for you. However, with its current price point as marketed as an Eau de Parfum, I believe you can find similar scent profiles that on application behave more closely to their composition—having a lasting presence hours after the initial application.
All in all, I would not buy this fragrance again and would not consider it one of my standouts for floral perfumes.
